General Scope:
To furnish all labor, materials and equipment necessary or required to fully complete the installation of the elevator as indicated on the drawings and specifications. This suggested specification is intended to cover the complete installation of the Genesis Lift Elevator.

ASME/ANSI A17.1 -"Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators", Part V. Furthermore, materials and construction shall comply with the current edition of the following codes, standards, and guidelines. ANSI A17.1 -"Providing accessibility and usability for physically handicapped people.

System Description:
The elevator assembly shall consist of a power unit, car, guide system, direct hydraulic or 1:2 cable hydraulic lifting device (determined by owner), control system, signals and alarms, electrical wiring, and parts and accessories necessary to provide required performance, operation, code and safety requirements.

Quality Assurance :
The lift shall meet or exceed applicable regulations of all governing agencies and be in conformance with:

• Applicable Local Building Code Requirements and regulatory agencies

• Fabricate and install work in compliance with all applicable authorities.

• File shop drawings and submissions to applicable agencies as required. Company pre-inspection and regulatory agency inspections and permits will be made on a timely basis as required. Work will include all inspections required to ensure licenses are issue

Subcontractor Qualifications :
Execute work of this specification only by a contractor/company who has adequate product and public liability insurance in excess of one million dollars. Skilled tradesmen to be employees of the contractor and perform the work on a timely basis. Employees trained by the manufacturer and supervised by the elevator contractor.

Substitutions:
No substitutions will be considered until the architect has received written request for approval. Each request shall include a complete description of the proposed substitute and any other information needed for consideration.

Preparatory Work By Others:
Provide power unit machine room to meet applicable codes and standards

Permanent power (220 Volt) to operate the elevator to be provided to a lockable fused/cartridge type disconnect switch with auxiliary contact/switch for emergency battery lowering if required. Deliver all wiring in equipment room in conduit. Refer to drawings for permanent power specifications and location of disconnects.

Provide 15-volt lighting supply and lockout type disconnect in equipment room for car lights. Provide equipment room with light and switch inside of room. Refer to drawings for permanent power specifications and location of disconnects.

Provide an enclosed, plumb and square hoistway with smooth interior surfaces include for fascias or furring of hoistway interior as needed.

Provide doors and frames, to be of fire rated construction and of the type which will provide 2 3/4" clear from back of hoistway door to inside edge of hoistway sill. Hoistway enclosure doors to have delayed action closers in compliance with code. Hoistway doors to have lever type door handles. Provide rough openings as per elevator contractor's drawings.

Provide equipment room door and door closers. Door lock set-self locking type. Door to be minimum one (1) hour fire rating.

  • Equipment room and hoistway enclosure floors-walls-ceilings to be of one (1) hour fire rating. Ceiling in equipment room to have 7' clear overhead-minimum.
  • Provide substantial and level pit floor slab to support loads indicated on elevator contractor's shop drawings.
  • Provide adequate support for guide rail fastenings
  • Provide pit waterproofing or sump pump, if required. (see elevator contractor)
  • Provide 12" or 24" pit (see elevator contractor)
  • Provide 9' minimum overhead (distance from floor at upper level to underside of roof).
  • Provide telephone connection to elevator controller in equipment room-if required
  • Provide cab floor covering.
  • Provide fire extinguisher beside strike side of door jamb inside equipment room.

Hydraulic Power Unit:

  • The pump and motor shall be the submersible type installed inside the oil tank
  • The controller shall be mounted per code and pre-wired and tested before shipment.
  • Control circuitry to be "solid state" and located in car control station panel
  • The power unit control valve shall be a two-speed valve type that includes all hydraulic control per manufacturer specifications
  • This valve shall incorporate the following features:
    • Up and down acceleration and deceleration speed adjustment for smooth starts and stops.
    • Smooth stops at each landing shall be an innate feature of the valve.
    • Adjustable pressure relief valve.
    • Manually operating DOWN valve to lower elevator in an emergency.
    • Pressure gauge indicating in p.s.i. and bars
    • Gate valve to isolate cylinder from pump unit.

Cylinder and Plunger:

  • The cylinder shall be constructed of steel pipe of a sufficient thickness and suitable safety margin. The top of the cylinder shall be equipped with a cylinder head with an internal guide ring and self-adjusting packing.
  • The plunger shall be constructed of a steel shaft of a proper diameter machined true and smooth. The plunger shall be provided with a s stop electrically welded to the bottom to prevent the plunger from leaving the cylinder.

Cable-Roped Hydraulic:

  • Minimum of two 3/8' IWRC galvanized aircraft cables. Minimum breaking strength of 14,400 lbs. each.
  • Safety Device-Roped Hydraulic:
    • A "slack/broken cable" safety device shall be supplied which will stop and maintain the elevator and its rated load, if either of the hoisting cables become slack or break. The safety device shall be reset by the operation of the elevator in the upward direction. A switch shall be mounted in such a position as to sense the operation of the safety device, and will open the safety circuit to the controller to prevent operation of the elevator in either direction.

Sheave-Roped Hydraulic :

  • The 1/2 guide sheave arrangement shall be supplied with a sheave, guide shoes, roller bearings and adjustable cable guards. The shave shall be finished with rounded grooves to fit the cables.

Normal Terminals Stopping Devices:

  • Normal terminal stopping devices shall optically sense when at the top and bottom of the runway to stop the car automatically.

Final Limit Switch:

  • The elevator shall be equipped with a final limit switch to cut off all power to the elevator if the upper normal terminal stopping devices fail.

Guide Rails and Brackets:

  • Steel "T" guide rails and brackets shall be securely fastened to the building structure. Brackets shall securely hold the guides in a plumb and true position regardless of car loading. Guides shall be bolted through the hoistway enclosure with back-up plates, washers and nuts. Subject to architects' alterations and approval.

Car Sling:

  • Car sling shall be fabricated from steel members with adequate bracing to support the platform and cab. The buffer striking member on the underside of the car will stop the elevator before the plunger reaches its down limit of travel. Guide shoes to be solid with polyurethane inserts.

Wiring:

  • All wiring and electrical connections shall comply with applicable codes, insulated wiring shall have flame retardant and moisture proof outer covering and shall be run in conduit or electrical wire ways. Traveling cables shall be flexible and suitably suspended to relieve strain.

Examination:

  • All site dimensions shall be taken to ensure that tolerances and clearances have been maintained and meet code requirements.

Preparation:

  • Pre-inspect the construction and service requirements for "Work by Others." These requirements will be included in drawings, diagrams, data sheets and any special instructions before the work commences.

Warranty:

  • The elevator contractor shall provide three (3) months free service from date of approval by regulatory agency. The entire elevator and all component parts shall carry a warranty for a period of one (1) year. The warranty shall be for the replacement at no cost of defective parts but shall not include the labor costs required to replace the defective part or parts.

Owner's Instructions & Manual:

  • After installation is completed, the contractor shall instruct the owner in the proper use, operation and maintenance requirements of the elevator. Instructions to also include emergency procedures, safety rules and precautions. Contractor shall also supply the owner with an owner's manual detailing the operating, safety, and maintenance procedures of the elevator.

Submittals Shop Drawings

  • The shop drawings shall show a complete layout of the elevator equipment detailing dimensions, clearances and location of machinery. Including the following:
    • Drawings showing the dimentsions including plans, elevations, and sections to show equipment locations and their relationship to surroundings.
    • Load and reaction drawings shall be provided by the elevator manufacturer and detailed on drawings

Car
Oak Plastic Laminate Wall Panels

  • Provide 1/2" Oak Laminate Cab Panels. Control wall if needed to be equiped with removable panels for service access.

Ceilings -- Non-removable 1/2" Melamine with one (1) pot light.

Floor -- Plywood sub-flooring

Handrail -- Oak handrail located below control panel.

Emergency Operation-Optional -- Equipped with a battery-powered emergencylowering device and alarm if required, which can be actuated on the failure of normal building power supply. Batery will be recharegeable type with an automatic recharging system.

Emergency Light -- The car shall be equipped with an emergency light that will illuminate automatically in the event of a main power failure.

Car Operating Panel -- Car operating panel shall consist of one illuminated button for each landing, an emergency stop button and an alarm button mounted on a removable stainless panel.

Car Lighting -- The car lighting shall consist of one (1) low voltage light.

Automatic Lights -- Overhead lights in the car compartment shall turn ON automatically when the elevator door is opened and to stay on while the elevator is in use. The elevator lights will shut off by a timer when the elevator is not in use.

Brass Package -- Provide a package consisting of a brass car station plate, brass colored pot lights, and brass trim.

Option - Brass Telephone Cabinet -- Provide a 10"w x12 1/2"h x 3 3/4"d recessed brass colored telephone box, with a brass colored front.

Door Locks - Interlocks -- Locks shall be electrically operated and electrically released at floor level and will remain unlocked until hall or car call is placed. When released, the lock will drop down and close the electrical circuitry to ensure the elevator cannot move unless the door is closed and locked.

Hall Call Stations -- Provide a hall call station with an illuminated call button and stainless steel cover plate for each landing.

Platform Toe Guard -- A platform toe guard shall be provided at each car entrance opening to extend below the car entrance opening for safety.

Leveling Device -- The elevator shall be provided with a 2-way leveling device which will maintain the car within 1/2" of the landing. Leveling device shall be located in a position to be inaccessible to unauthorized persons.

Car Gate -- Folding car gate.
